This article provides information on the role and significance of animal husbandry, one of the traditional types of farming widespread in the Surkhan-Sherobod oasis, in the socio-economic life of the population of the oasis at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as on the peculiarities of the livestock farming of the inhabitants of the oasis in accordance with their ethno-territorial distribution. The main differences in the composition and maintenance of livestock among livestock breeders of the oasis were analyzed. Materials on ethnocultural processes that occurred as a result of the economic exchange associated with the mixed residence of pastoralists with the settled agricultural population are also presented
