ADAPTATION OF ENGLISH LEGAL TERMS INTO THE UZBEK LANGUAGE: A LEXICAL-SEMANTIC AND TYPOLOGICAL ANALYSIS

This article examines the process of the adaptation of English legal terms into the Uzbek language from lexical-semantic and typological perspectives. The study is based on the interdisciplinary nature of legal translation, conceptual discrepancies between legal systems, and issues of terminological equivalence. Drawing on existing scholarly literature and practical units observed in legal discourse, the main mechanisms of adaptation are identified, including direct transliteration, partial calquing, semantic adaptation, and hybrid forms. The results of the analysis indicate that English legal terms are actively used in Uzbek, particularly in the fields of international law, contracts, arbitration, mediation, and compliance. At the same time, parallel variants remain in use for certain terms. This situation demonstrates that legal terms possess not only linguistic significance but also institutional and normative status. The article further proposes practical recommendations for the standardization of legal terminology, the improvement of translation quality, and the development of scholarly lexicography.
